Welcome to the Dubai Healthcare City Best Practice Conference 2018, held under the patronage of the Chairperson of Dubai Healthcare City Authority, HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, wife of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
Dubai Healthcare City Authority (DHCA), the governing body of Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), on May 2, 2017, recognized and honored 13 clinical facilities within the free zone for their innovative initiatives and top safety standards that made a positive difference to the lives of patients.
The inaugural Dubai Healthcare City Authority Excellence Awards had two categories - 'Healthcare Innovation Award', which showcased innovative practices and projects in patient care, and the 'Outpatient Clinical Quality Award' which recognized outpatient clinics that have achieved continuous high compliance with the outpatient quality standards of Dubai Healthcare City Authority-Regulatory (DHCR), the regulator of DHCC.
The winners were selected by an independent judging panel which consisted of five members from the Dubai Quality Award judging panel.
The 'Healthcare Innovation Award' had three recipients and the 'Outpatient Clinical Quality Award', 10 recipients.
The first place for the 'Healthcare Innovation Award' was awarded to Dr Sulaiman Al Habib Hospital - Dubai for introducing surgical treatment for intractable epilepsy in adults and children that has drastically improved the quality of life for those suffering from epilepsy; it is the UAE's only comprehensive epilepsy program which deals with and manages complex epilepsy surgery cases.
The second place was awarded to Mediclinic City Hospital for its prevention program of Severe Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit; ROP affects premature babies and leads to blindness in a matter of weeks. The program, designed according to international best practices, had a huge impact on infant safety and quality of life.
The third place was awarded to Dr Majdi El-Halik Paediatric Physical and Mental Rehabilitation Center, for being the first of its kind intensive multidisciplinary and holistic rehabilitation center in Dubai Healthcare City for physically and mentally challenged children.
